Back on the Statehouse steps, Harmony Edosomwan, a Burlington-based activist who made headlines for her confrontation with Burlington police officials at a protest last weekend, led the crowd in chants of “no justice, no peace, defund the police.”
“I’m not afraid to say we really do not need police officers,” Edosomwan told the crowd. “If we had community councils and community gatherings, it would not only strengthen our communities, but we’ll see that a world is possible without living in a police state.”
Well “Harmony” who’s going to track down the hit and run driver who is likely drunk on his ass and just killed two people? Who is going to apprehend the scumbag who is sexually assaulting women at knifepoint? And what about the child molester who is doing unspeakable things to children, who is going to stop them? Who is going to respond to burglar alarms? Will your “community councils” ask for volunteers from among your “community gatherings” to go after these people and “arrest” them? will they be allowed to be armed? Are you going to respect a suspects Constitutional rights?
Who is going to enforce your precious “enviromental laws”?
Criminals are not going to disappear or reform just because you’ve decided to abolish the Cops. They’re going to have a field day.
But you will of course totally respect the 2nd Amendment and the Vermont Constitution to allow all citizens to “open carry”,at all times…yes? Because if you abolish the police it’s going to be like the old wild and woolly west of 175 years ago where an armed society was polite society.
But personally I think deep down you would like to turn Vermont into something like Venezuela or Cuba. Confiscate all fireams, inprison pto-lifers, climate skeptics, redistribute peoples wealth and property, establish a network of informers and since criminals are not going to arrested anymore since there will be no police, they will instead be known as the socially friendly and put to constructive use in this new society.

Every life unjustly killed deserves justice. In the cause to make things right, I will not join a movement that has nearly everything wrong. More innocent lives have now been killed (including cops) since these predominantly violent protests began over George Floyd’s horrific death. What about the black lives killed in this nationwide chaos? Do they matter?
