It’s Columbus Day…Styx’s opinion

I went to the bank yesterday and saw a sign that said they would be closed on “Indigenous Peoples Day”.

Vermont is a “woke” blue state and likely will be long after I’m gone. But hopefully someday, critical thinking will make a comeback.

Death Note…and Solzhenitsyn.

Death Note (stylized in all caps) is a Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. It was serialized in Shueisha‘s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 2003 to May 2006, with its chapters collected in 12 tankōbon volumes. The story follows Light Yagami, a genius high school student who discovers a mysterious notebook: the “Death Note”, which belonged to the shinigami Ryuk, and grants the user the supernatural ability to kill anyone whose name is written in its pages. The series centers around Light’s subsequent use of the Death Note to carry out a worldwide massacre of individuals whom he deems immoral and to create a crime-free society, using the alias of a god-like vigilante named “Kira”, and the subsequent efforts of an elite Japanese police task force, led by enigmatic detective L, to apprehend him.

In Tokyo, brilliant yet disaffected high school student Light Yagami finds the “Death Note”, a mysterious black notebook with rules that can end anyone’s life in seconds if their name is written in it, as long as the writer knows both the target’s true name and face. Light uses the notebook to kill high-profile criminals and is visited by Ryuk, a shinigami and the Death Note’s original owner. Ryuk, invisible to anyone who has not touched the notebook, reveals that he dropped the notebook into the human world out of boredom and is amused by Light’s actions.[5]

The assassination of Charlie Kirk was horrific enough, what made one sick to their stomach was the joy thousands of seemingly normal people found in his brutal murder.   Teachers, doctors, nurses, even someone close to me, exhibited a blacknest of the heart that I would have imagined.

Solzhenitsyn stated:

“Gradually it was disclosed to me that the line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either — but right through every human heart — and through all human hearts. This line shifts. Inside us, it oscillates with the years. And even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained. And even in the best of all hearts, there remains … an unuprooted small corner of evil.
Evil exist in every heart, my own included.  The “death notebook” fell into the hands of  a young person who started with “good intentions,” putting to death scum who “deserved it”…criminals. But his hubris gives way to megalomania, as he murders people who a trying to track him down. In the end he is surrounded and destroyed.
What if  I had found such a  notebook?  To have such a power of life and death. Especially after watching people take absolute joy in the murder of Charlie Kirk. I know though I could never use anything like that. Too many years infected by Sunday school, and occasional church attendance over the course of a lifetime.
But what about them? What would they do if such a notebook had fallen into their possession? Well, the thing they do have is…ideology. And they would kill with pleasure.
Solzhenitsyn wrote: “To do evil a human being must first of all believe that what they are doing is good, or else that it’s a well-considered act in conformity with natural law. Fortuately, it is in the nature of the human being to seek a justification for their actions.”
“Ideology-that is what gives evildoing its long-sought justification and give the evildoer the nescessary steadfastness and determination. That is the social theory which helps to make their acts seem good instead of bad in their own and others’ eyes, so that they won’t hear reproaches and curses but will recieve praise and honors.”
The events that have occured over the last few decades have certainly not happened in a vacuum . The radical left long march through acadamia starting the “Berkely free speech movement” and codified by Saul Alinsky in his “Rules for Radicals.”
Decades of indoctrination have led the to the state of things today. Solzhenitsyn knew this was coming in his “Warning to the West”.

I suppose it comes down to something like this, in these very troubling times, don’t become what you hate.

A message from Ace!

Killing this lamb from Jesus’ flock has forced even those who would prefer to remain blind to open up their eyes and see.  All over the internet, leftists are celebrating Charlie’s murder.  Without fear of reprisal or shame in their hearts, they record themselves laughing and cheering.  They call this man who preached love a “hater.”  They justify executing a man of peace.  Non-leftists watching this morbid celebration of Charlie’s assassination are forced to recognize an unpleasant truth: Evil exists in this world, and leftist political parties have given evil a home.
