Losing our religion

‘Men have forgotten God!

Alexsandr Solzhenitsyn’s 1983 Templeton address

Some excerts:

Imperceptibly, through decades of gradual erosion, the meaning of life in the West has ceased to be seen as anything more lofty than the “pursuit of happiness, “a goal that has even been solemnly guaranteed by constitutions. The concepts of good and evil have been ridiculed for several centuries; banished from common use, they have been replaced by political or class considerations of short-lived value. It has become embarrassing to state that evil makes its home in the individual human heart before it enters a political system. Yet it is not considered shameful to make daily concessions to an integral evil. Judging by the continuing landslide of concessions made before the eyes of our very own generation, the West is ineluctably slipping toward the abyss. Western societies are losing more and more of their religious essence as they thoughtlessly yield up their younger generation to atheism. If a blasphemous film about Jesus is shown throughout the United States, reputedly one of the most religious countries in the world, or a major newspaper publishes a shameless caricature of the Virgin Mary, what further evidence of godlessness does one need? When external rights are completely unrestricted, why should one make an inner effort to restrain oneself from ignoble acts?

Or why should one refrain from burning hatred, whatever its basis ― race, class, or ideology? Such hatred is in fact corroding many hearts today. Atheist teachers in the West are bringing up a younger generation in a spirit of hatred of their own society. Amid all the vituperation we forget that the defects of capitalism represent the basic flaws of human nature, allowed unlimited freedom together with the various human rights; we forget that under Communism (and Communism is breathing down the neck of all moderate forms of socialism, which are unstable) the identical flaws run riot in any person with the least degree of authority; while everyone else under that system does indeed attain “equality”― the equality of destitute slaves.

The Man was a prophet…

Alexsandr Solzhenitsyn spent nearly twenty years in exile in the Democratic Peoples Republic of Vermont during the 70’s and 80’s. I imagine that very few millenials in Vermont have ever heard of him, let alone read any of his writings.

Now the age old question…Is the Pope Catholic?”

Answer: Not this one.

In the over two thousand year history of the Catholic Church there have been more than a few bad Popes.

Pope Francis has to be one of the worst.

These are dark times.

I’m glad I’m old.

Allah is most wise and merciful

What if one day You (a professed Christian) find yourself in a situation where your surrounded by a group militant atheist or radical Muslims. They tell you that unless you renounce believing in Christ (or covert to Islam) you will have the living crap beaten out of  you or worse.

“whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it” Matthew 16:26

Of course on the night of Jesus’s arrest Peter denied him three times, but Jesus had  already known that was going to happen.

Saint Stephen became the first Christian  Martyr.  To be followed by thousands more over the next two millennia.  Things would become especially hard for Christians in the 20th century with the spread of Communism of which militant athesim was one of it’s main pillars.  This ideology killed 100 million people. Not all were Christian but all were human beings. For many Christians the choice was remaining firm in their faith and facing severe persecution or publicly renouncing Christ and thus remain free.

While Christians in 21st century America have not yet had to endure physical torture for their faith, Christians are now mocked regularly in media andforced by State laws to participate in things that go against their beliefs. Atheist groups want to make Atheism a national religion People have lost their jobs because of their faith. Many have succumbed to the unrelenting pressure of political correctness, decided it is no longer worth it and abandon their faith.

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Matthew 7:13

“Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Matthew 7:14

Jesus wants to know where you stand!

But when it come to Islam,  Allah in his wisdom seems to have given those who adhere to his teachings a special clause that Christians don’t have.

You have the freedom to deceive when speaking to infidels about your faith and intentions whenever you feel it’s necessary and expediant.

It’s called Taqiyya.

Which makes Muslims and today’s Democrats two peas in a pod.

It’s Good Friday, and thank God

He took the punishment for you and me. So that all who come to him may be saved.

One of the thieves crucified with him took advantage.  The other didn’t.

Probably a Progressive liberal Democrat.

The Biblical Story of Esther and the Immoral Society
By Avrohom Gordimer

A quote in the article by Rabbi Soloveitchik

The hedonic society is, more or less, a democratic Western society, in pursuit of pleasure and happiness. That society’s world philosophy and outlook can be broken into a number of component parts. This democratic society is in pursuit of pleasure, insists on minimum government interference in private life, resents controls, demands unrestricted freedom in matters which do not affect the community, particularly, matters of sexual morality, hates discipline imposed from above, not even by teachers, is opposed to any constriction…

There is also another society. There is another path which human beings take in order to escape from the finiteness awareness and in order to engage in self-defeat, not only in an allusion but simply in a delusion. The second path, along which frightened man runs in his wild flight from finiteness and death, leads in the opposite direction… Man, traveling along the second path, tries to calm the fear of finiteness through a big lie, through convincing himself that he is more than man. This is done by intentionally magnifying, a hundred-fold, and exaggerating and lying about human ability and power to solve both scientific and metaphysical problems of humanity, and by painting, in iridescent colors, the eschatological age which should be brought about by man alone, through his wisdom and creative efforts

A society that lacks a divine moral code cannot endure. The empty, meaningless void that is created by pliable and disposable communal norms gives entry to totalitarianism, be it Marxism, communism or fascism.

The whole article is worth a read.  Have a wonderful Sunday morning.

Science and Religion. Part 1

Since the beginning of civilization when men learned to till the soil, domesticate animals,  and construct the first large urban centers made of mud bricks they were usually led by a charismatic individual who showed natural leadership skills. later becoming know as “Kings”.  When enough food was available for everyone this gave people time to “think”. And what they thought about was the things they saw everyday. That bright glowing ball of fire that rose in the east and set in the west.  The less bright orb that lit up in the darkness. The twinkling lights that all seemed to move in unison except for a few that wandered.
A certain cast of the tribe took on the task of observing the sky and over many generations learned  that the movements of the sun, moon and stars followed the same patterns year after year.  Calendars could be made, Solstice’s could be predicted and  most importantly times to sow and reap. The people who had the knowledge to make these predictions over time morphed into a priestly class, becoming trusted advisors to the ruling elite or even becoming rulers themselves.
Of course some things couldn’t be predicted like droughts. When it didn’t rain for a long time crops failed and people starved.  Unfortunately the weather channel was 3000 years or so in the future. Things that could not be predicted or explained were the venue of the gods and their whims.   So the problem must be that the gods were displeased. Those gods who were responsible of the sun in the sky. Who sent bolts of lightening and roared with thunder. and who sent or withheld the rain.  What could be done to please the gods?
Pyramids were constructed, alters were built and what was required from the masses was…sacrifice,  blood sacrifice,  animals, and in some civilizations,  human sacrifice.
But certain people were blessed with curiosity and intelligence.
Mathematics,  geometry in particular seems to have been developed in varies cultures. This aided in the building and alignment of those  pyramids and temples. In ancient Greece Euclid, and Archimedes among others brought great advancements.
The Greek astronomer Eratosthenes of Cyrene in 240 B.C. came remarkably close to figuring the circumference of the earth through observation and geometry.
Aristotle, Socrates, and Plato, pillars of philosophy, There names are well known today.
The Greek Hippocrates and Galen who practiced in Rome  brought advancements  in medicine.
An understanding of the workings of the natural world was taking it’s first small steps. How but not so much why.
There would be a long ways to go.

Progressives always get it backwards

Lets see now… Harvard law-professor says treat conservative Christians like Nazis. I think this is known in psychological circles as projection.  Actually this is how the Nazi’s of Germany treated devote Christians.

Hitler and the Nazi’s real feelings about Christianity have been well documented.  While not slaughtered wholesale like the Jews, many Christians paid with their bodies (but not with their souls).

Men like Dietrich Bonhoeffer and underground groups as the White Rose made the ultimate sacrifice for their beliefs and integrity.

For now it’s lawsuits and fines. Persecution via your income and livelihood. But we all know that it will not stop there.

“British Muslim Murdered After Posting Easter Greetings”

I read this in  American Thinker today.

I would like to imagine that the vast majority of Muslims in the U.S. and the world  are peaceful people who just want to practice their religion (of peace) in peace. That we can respect each other’s faith, engage in commerce, and even on occasions be allies in war.

I would like to imagine that the vast majority of Muslim women really don’t want to wear a burka. Are perfectly able to drive a car, and don’t mind having a job and earning their own money.  That the vast, vast  majority of Muslim fathers do NOT murder their daughters for dating the wrong person.

Obviously a very hard core minority does not concur with this assessment. and this hard core minority are the ones who are following the Qur’an  to the letter.

Political correctness has almost entirely driven Christianity from the public square.  Yet it’s very accommodating to Islam. For Progressives “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”.

When an Amish person transgresses he or she is shunned by their fellow Amish. When a Muslim person transgresses he or she is KILLED by their fellow Muslims.

As we read of what happened in Great Britain.  Brussels shows how they feel about the rest of us

Islam means “submission” to the will of Allah.  “Your” submission to Islam.

I would love to “COEXIST”, but co-existence is a two way street. I don’t see that happening.

Tomorrow is Easter. Be joyous.

Thank GOD it’s GOOD Friday

Resurrection-Cross-Wallpaper
TGIF! The work week is nearly done.  For one very special man his life’s work, his mission, wrapped up on this particular Friday.  Taking the punishment for our sins upon himself.  Giving us the gift of eternal life. And all we have to do is accept.

It seems sometimes that what we thank the lord most of all for is Friday. Speaking for myself I’m thankful for much, much, more.

In my own warped imagination perhaps the Lords weekend went like this. He dropped by his former disgruntled employee and gave him one long raspberry.  Then went to see the fellows who predicted all this and said all right your wait is over, but you guys go on ahead.  I have to get up early Sunday morning.
