This is hard to believe but then again perhaps not.
Vermont State Colleges could close three campuses and cut hundreds of employees as part of a system-wide transformation in light of financial losses from the COVID-19 pandemic. The recommendation came from Vermont State Colleges System Chacellor Jeb Spaulding on Friday. As part of Spaulding’s plan, the residential campuses of Northern Vermont University in Lyndon and Johnson would be closed and their liberal arts programs would be transferred to Castleton University. Furthermore, the Randolph Center campus of Vermont Technical College would close, consolidating to locations in Williston and throughout Vermont prior to the 2020-21 academic year.
I graduated from V.T.C. back in the mid seventies. My class numbered 188 people of which only 12 were women. Needless to say you didn’t go to V.T.C. for the social life. Even way back then women were being encouraged to take S.T.E.M. courses. Many women chose not too. Much to my disapointment.
As of now the COVID-19 pandemic may be looked at as the coup-de-gras to the social rot that has been building for decades. Liberal/progressive policies that have degenerating business (job creation), the family (save the planet, don’t have children), Men (white men in particualr), and havin faith in something higher than ourselves.
Things have changed a lot in the past 45 years…
Our K-12 government schools are now little more then Marxist indoctrination centers, the teachers have become political commissars. Their main mission statment being: white people are racist (BLM), and we’ve only 12 years to save the planet (lets go on strike and disrupt peoples lives ).
And of course..Students also now have the ability to attend college on-line, which makes brick and mortar buildings like classrooms, dormitories, auditoriums, libraries and cafeterias rather superfluous.
A shrinking pool of young people, anemic job growth and opportunities, high taxes, political correctness, this outcome was inevitable.
It’s a beautiful campus. It will be a shame to see it empty, its sports teams extinct. The hundreds of jobs lost.
And they taught real world stuff there, none of this safe space politically correct B.S..
Vermont Technical College 1866-2020. Sad.
