Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><em><strong>Since the beginning of civilization when men\u00a0learned to till the soil, domesticate animals,\u00a0 and construct the first large urban centers made of mud bricks they were usually led by a charismatic individual who showed natural leadership skills. later becoming know as &#8220;Kings&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0When enough food was available for everyone this gave people\u00a0time to\u00a0&#8220;think&#8221;. And what they thought about was the\u00a0things they saw everyday. That bright glowing ball of fire that rose in the east and set in the west.\u00a0 The less bright\u00a0orb that\u00a0lit up\u00a0in the darkness. The twinkling lights that all seemed to move in unison except for a few that wandered.<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<h5><em><strong>A certain cast of the tribe took on the task of observing the sky and over many generations\u00a0learned \u00a0that the movements of the sun, moon and stars followed the same\u00a0patterns year after year.\u00a0\u00a0Calendars could be made, Solstice&#8217;s could be predicted and \u00a0most importantly times to sow and reap. The people who had the knowledge to make these predictions over time morphed into a priestly class, becoming trusted advisors to the ruling elite or even becoming rulers themselves.<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<h5><em><strong>Of course some things couldn&#8217;t be predicted like droughts. When it didn&#8217;t rain for a long time crops failed and people starved. \u00a0Unfortunately the weather channel was 3000 years or so in the future.\u00a0Things that could not be predicted or explained were the venue of the gods and their whims.\u00a0\u00a0 So the problem must be that the gods were displeased. Those gods who were responsible of the sun in the sky. Who sent bolts of lightening and\u00a0roared with thunder. and who sent\u00a0or withheld the rain.\u00a0 What could be done to please the gods?<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<h5><em><strong>Pyramids were constructed, alters were built and what was required from the masses was&#8230;sacrifice,\u00a0 blood sacrifice,\u00a0\u00a0animals,\u00a0and in some civilizations,\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aG8WqEyXIychuman sacrifice\">human sacrifice<\/a>.<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<h5><em><strong>But certain people were blessed with curiosity and intelligence.<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<h5><em><strong>Mathematics,\u00a0 geometry in particular seems to have been developed in varies\u00a0cultures. This aided in the building and alignment of those \u00a0pyramids and temples. In ancient Greece <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Euclid\">Euclid<\/a>,\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Archimedes\">Archimedes<\/a>\u00a0among others brought great advancements.<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<h5><em><strong>The Greek astronomer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Eratosthenes-of-Cyrene\">Eratosthenes of Cyrene<\/a>\u00a0in 240 B.C. came remarkably close to\u00a0figuring the\u00a0circumference of the earth through observation and geometry.<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<h5><em><strong>Aristotle, Socrates, and Plato, pillars of philosophy, There names are well known today.<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<h5><em><strong>The Greek Hippocrates and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Galen\">Galen<\/a> who practiced in Rome\u00a0 brought advancements \u00a0in medicine.<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<h5><em><strong>An understanding of the\u00a0workings of the\u00a0natural world was taking it&#8217;s first small steps.
